VRIJ-spel - Studio Ludiek

Studio Ludiek’s play boxes come with no fixed rules or predefined goal. Children are invited to rediscover familiar games or invent new stories on the spot. They turn any public space into a place to play and become game makers themselves.

They do not play alone: play is a universal language that brings people together, regardless of origin or background. By playing together, children reclaim public space and help build an accessible city.

This is precisely what our reopening exhibition Public Matter(s): Design and Democracy is about. It shows how design and democracy shape one another, and how design and architecture can make spaces far more inclusive, even at the most everyday level.

Play is the driving force behind design. We want to be a museum where creativity can run free and where children and playful adults feel at home. That is why the play box will have a permanent place in the museum after the reopening.

More about the project

Studio Ludiek is a network of designers, makers and researchers building an ecosystem around meaningful play. Convinced that play is fundamental to society, they design playful spaces and objects that encourage interaction and connection. With a curious and experimental approach, they investigate the social power of design to make public spaces and organisations more accessible, inclusive and socially relevant.
