Travel through time and across the city 

Ready for a journey through history and the streets of Ghent? With Expedition Ghent, your pupils swap the classroom for a day of discovery at twomuseums. 

10.00 a.m. – 11.30 a.m. | The Story of Ghent (STAM) 

Begin the day at STAM, where a museum guide leads your class through the permanent exhibition The Story of Ghent. Through interactive activities, pupilsdiscover how people lived, worked, travelled and celebrated before smartphones, modern schools and social clubs existed. 

11.45 a.m. – 12.45 p.m. | Lunch break 

Enjoy a packed lunch in the STAM garden or in the museum's free indoor picnic space. 

After lunch, the class walks from STAM to Design Museum Gent. The route is straightforward and approximately 1.8 km long. 

Please note that this walk is not supervised by museum staff. 

1.30 p.m. – 3.00 p.m. | City Designers (Design Museum Gent) 

In the afternoon, pupils join a guided design walk through Ghent with a museum guide from Design Museum Gent. They learn to observe the city throughthe eyes of a designer, discover how design shapes public space and develop the skills designers use to understand and improve the world around them.
