Collection. Models from the Past for the Future - Guided tour

Book your guided tour

How can a design collection continue to inspire us in 2026? That is the question we explore during this guided tour of thecollection presentation. We travel back to 1903, when Design Museum Gent was founded. At the time, the museum served as a place where outstanding examples of design were brought together. Craftspeople faced rapid social and technological change, and the museum offered them knowledge and inspiration to apply in their own work.

Just as then, we still need imagination to meet the challenges of the future. Together, we revisit the museum's original idea as a "museum of models" through a contemporary lens. Which objects remain surprisingly relevant? And which invite a more criticalperspective or fresh interpretation today?

Together, we explore the collection through five contemporary themes: Copy, Comfort, Migration, Folds and Connections. You guide will encourage you to look beyond form and uncover the stories behind the objects.
