Discover the Special Design Projects

In the brand-new wing of Design Museum Gent, the Special Design Projects translate our sustainability story into concrete, tangible creations. From the entrance gate to the courtyard and the restrooms, every single design is cleverly and stylishly woven into the building with a sharp eye for design.

Design in Every Corner

The projects are inspired by the From earth to sky concept by curator Siegrid Demyttenaere. They begin on level -1 at the origins of materials and rise all the way to level +4 towards innovative, forward-looking applications.

The designers set to work with recycled, reused, and bio-based materials, industrial waste, and discarded objects. They consciously chose materials built to last, whose character only grows stronger through use.

The traces of their past and new lives remain visible, immediately showing you how materials move, change, and take on a new lease of life. It offers an inspiring perspective on how we can handle what we make and use differently—today and tomorrow.

Will you come and see it for yourself? Read all about it on this page, or plan a visit to the museum right away and admire them in real life!
