Museum Shop

Welcome to the Design Museum Gent shop. Here you'll find a mix of quirky eye catchers and surprisingly affordable everyday objects that invite you to touch, use and treasure them. The shop is an extension of the museum itself. We celebrate experimentation, craftsmanship and innovative ways of making.

Four stories

Under the theme In Praise of Listening, every object tells a story. We look beyond appearance and listen to what the object andits designer have to say. How was it made? How does it feel? How does it become part of everyday life? As you explore the shop, you'll discover four colour-coded themes.

Listening to What Endures

Some objects become more beautiful with age. This selection brings together durable everyday products and locally made specialities inspired by traditional craftsmanship. Designed to last for generations, these are objects that develop character over time.

Listening to Use & Gesture

Good design is often found in the smallest everyday rituals. This selection celebrates quiet design: objects that feel natural in your hands and transform daily routines into mindful moments at home.

Listening Beyond the Human

Here, design looks beyond human needs alone. Discover bio-based materials, circular products and objects that respect the relationship between people, materials and the natural world. Their production process remains visible, allowing you to sense the origin of every piece.

Listening in Context

This part of the shop evolves alongside the museum. Inspired by current exhibitions, festivals and contemporary themes, it showcases limited editions, experimental projects and new voices in design.

Come in and listen

Whether you're looking for a unique gift, locally made design or a reminder of your visit, the museum shop is open to everyone. Feel free to browse, pick up the objects and experience them for yourself. The museum shop is open during the museum's opening hours. Admission is free and no museum ticket is required.

The shop design

The interior of the museum shop was designed by Bram Vanderbeke and Wendy Andreu, whose work blurs the boundaries between design, art and architecture. For the shop they adapted their Pyramid concept: a modular system of interlocking aluminium plates. Extended, reduced and doubled in scale, these geometric structures appear throughout the shop as display tables, bookcases and counters.

Aluminium was chosen for its durability and flexibility. It is strong, easy to adapt and fully recyclable, giving it an almost endless life cycle. Although the forms are bold and geometric, the subtly reflective surface develops a soft patina through everyday use. Every element is finished by hand in the designers' studio, giving each piece its own unique character.
